If you are in a more daring mood you can go all green by wearing a green skater dress, which is great for spring in general. Otherwise, you can keep it simple by wearing a green shirt with jeans or a nice white blouse with a green skirt.

Your Complete Guide To Valentine’s Day

ID-100158646-gubgibValentine’s Day is one of my favorite times of the year because it’s a day to celebrate love (think the Beatles’ song “All You Need Is Love”). Even if you don’t have a special someone that is no excuse NOT to celebrate! Get dressed, go out with your girlfriends, and have fun! Whether or not you are in a relationship here are some tricks and tips to have a fabulous Valentine’s Day! :)

1.     Makeup ID-10055241-Stuart Miles

Whether for yourself, your significant other, or just to catch that certain someone’s eye ;) Valentine’s Day is a great day to get gussied up! The ideal makeup for Valentine’s Day channels pinks, whites, and reds. Remember to focus on the eyes or lips for that perfect, romantic look. Below are some great makeup tutorials that focus on the eyes. Want to emphasize the lips? Put on a pretty red and pucker! :)

  • How To Be A Heartbreaker- Not literally, but it’s a fun Valentine’s Day makeup tutorial. Don’t feel obligated to add the false lashes or the little heart, but the rest is perfect!
  • Love Me For Me-Love this look! Sweet, romantic, and fun, it’s a great date night out look! Also, watch until the end for the hilarious guy advice!

Another bonus? These looks would even be great for your pageant!ID-100225825-stockimages

2.     Hair

Every girl wants great hair for her big Valentine’s Day night out! Loose, romantic curls are a must! Below are two tutorials by Luxy Hair that do the job well. When one pictures Valentine’s Day we stereotypically think of a guy giving a girl a box of chocolates and flowers. Although this is all fine and dandy, what about the guy? Well, if you do have a special someone in your life the appropriate gift can really depend on how long you have been dating! Cosmopolitan gives a nice little breakdown of appropriate gift price ranges, as well as great gift ideas.

4.     Date Ideas ID-100183484-gubgib

But what about the date night itself? I could give you a bazillion different ideas, but in the end it really depends on your relationship and what you and your partner would love to spend time doing together. Still need some help? To get the ideas flowing, here are my top four suggestions for a Valentine’s Day date night.

  •  Dinner At A Really Nice Restaurant—Just don’t forget to make the reservation!
  • Concert—This does not necessarily have to be exactly on V-Day, although that does make it convenient. :)
  • Dinner & A Movie—A great date night go-to, although with the cost of tickets and movie theater refreshments it’s probably best to go to a more reasonably priced restaurant.
  • Cook At Home—intimate, romantic, and relaxing it is a great private way to reconnect and have fun.

5.     And Remember! ID-100156135-gubgib

If you have a special someone, Valentine’s Day is a great reason to have some private, bonding time. It is a day dedicated to showing your significant other that you love and cherish them. Maybe the restaurant was bad or the weather is keeping you guys in. That is not as important as remembering why you are with that special someone and letting them know you appreciate them. So no matter the situation, make a romantic, loving evening out of it, and most importantly enjoy it together!

If you’re single that’s okay! Like I wrote earlier, make it a girls night. Feel sexy and confident, and go out with your girls and rock it. Who knows? Maybe you’ll meet that someone special! Not feeling like going out? Then have a girl’s night in! Grab all your favorite romantic comedies or dramas (as well as some ice cream), and have fun! Reminisce, laugh, and bond. Girl’s nights are always the best. :)

Holiday Treat Traps and How to Avoid Them

Part of what pageants girls are being judged on is their physical appearance so it is important that you eat healthy and exercise to stay fit.

During the holiday season, however, this is easier said than done. There are temptations everywhere, and I mean everywhere! There are chocolates sitting in your living room, cookies on the counter, latkes at the Hanukkah party, and your neighbor’s famous caramel popcorn delivered right to your front porch.

Here are a couple ways to avoid putting on those holiday pounds:

–       Share the treats you are given. Invite your friends over to munch on cookies with you so you do not end up eating the whole dozen on your own.

–       Don’t sit down to watch a movie with the box of chocolates because by the time the ending credits roll you might find that the chocolates are all gone.

–        If you receive a holiday treat, make sure to cover it in a non-transparent container so you are less tempted to snack on it throughout the day.

–       Don’t buy big bags of candy to put out for holiday decoration—it reduces the chances that you will end up eating it.

While it is important to stay healthy, don’t prevent yourself from having a treat every now and then—it’s part of the holiday spirit to have some sweets.

And if you find that you accidentally ate a dozen cookies or drink a whole bottle of apple cider, don’t be discouraged. Just forgive yourself, go to bed, and wake up the next morning and try to do better. Hating yourself for eating that extra piece of pie will get you nowhere, but the confidence from loving yourself will.  Happy Holidays!!

Thanksgiving Advice: 3 things to avoid, 3 things to do

The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and Turkey Day is fast approaching. Thanksgiving is full of yummy, fattening food and it is often hard to resist that huge piece of pumpkin pie; at the end of the day you find you are letting out your pants a bit.

Trying to stay in shape for the pageant takes a lot of will power and trying to maintain a healthy diet and exercise plan around Thanksgiving can be very difficult. Instead of cutting yourself off from all delicious foods and being miserable throughout the holidays, try out these tips to get the most out of your Thanksgiving.

3 things to avoid:

  1. Make sure to eat breakfast on Thanksgiving. Many of us are tempted to “save up” our hunger for the big feast so we can fill up on turkey and mashed potatoes. However, eating earlier in the day will help you avoid consuming an overwhelming amount of calories during the Thanksgiving meal.
  2.  Drink water instead of punch or another drink. This is a great way to cut out empty, unnecessary calories. But if you are just in love with the special drink your grandma makes then have a small glass and count that as a treat.
  3. Don’t nibble at little things because you will lose track of how much you are actually eating. Make yourself a plate of food, eat it slowly, then sit for about twenty minutes before going up to get seconds so you can tell how full you really are.

3 things to do:

  1. Cut yourself some slack! Eat healthy the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, so you have a little freedom with what you get to eat on the actual holiday.
  2. Try cutting down on the super fatty parts of the meal (gravy, butter, pies, cream) and load up on veggies, turkey, and fruit.
  3. Choose your desert wisely. Instead of taking 4 pieces of pie and scarfing them down, choose one small piece and savor it, really enjoy it. Try pumpkin pie instead of the chocolate cream, it is lower in calories and has many nutritional benefits!

Remember that balance is the key to being healthy in most things, so enjoy the holiday! Just remember the holiDAY is not all week. Get back on your healthy eating plan and keep your goal of general wellness–and performing well at your pageant–in the front of your mind. That makes it easier to make good choices day in and day out.
