Pageat Interview Queen

Essential Oils with Beauty Benefits

Who doesn’t want radiant skin and healthy hair? These are musts for any pageant girl, whether you’re on stage being interviewed by a panel or out in your daily life. Today, I’ll be sharing with you all a few essential oils with incredible benefits that will have your skin and hair stage-ready for any upcoming beauty pageants. Let’s get started!

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is so incredibly versatile in its benefits. It’s known mostly for its antiseptic and healing properties, but it has a lot of great beauty uses as well. Because it is an antiseptic, it’s amazing as an acne spot treatment. With just a couple drops on a Q-tip, the tea tree oil will soothe skin as well and reduce redness from blemishes to give you clear, pageant-ready skin. And adding a couple drops of this oil to your regular shampoo can also help reduce dandruff.

It is important to know, however, that tea tree oil should not be ingested and should be used sparingly as it can be harsh in large amounts.

Grapeseed Oil:

blog3photo4Another amazing, inexpensive essential oil is grapeseed oil, which is especially great for pageant girls with oily skin. It is a natural astringent that can be used to tone and tighten skin — all you need to do is put a few drops onto a cotton pad and spread it over your face after cleansing. It can also be used to prevent and reduce acne, similarly to tea tree oil, because it has anti-inflammatory properties. Another great use for grapeseed oil is dabbing a little bit underneath your eyes to minimize under-eye circles and keep you looking fresh and alert during your beauty pageant.

Coconut Oil:

Unlike tea tree oil and grapeseed oil, coconut oil has amazing moisturizing qualities. It can be used to soften cuticles or feet by massaging it into your skin, and it can be used as a luxuriously moisturizing shaving cream. Not only that, but a dab of coconut oil can also double as an overnight lip balm, remove tough waterproof eye makeup, and be used as deep conditioner for hair if you massage it into your roots and leave it for a few hours before washing out as normal. It’ll leave you hair shiny and smooth and definitely catch attention on the pageant stage!

Olive Oil:

Last but not least, olive oil. This versatile oil is not only great for cooking, but its beauty benefits are incredible for those of you pageant girls looking for an at-home beauty fix. Just like coconut oil, it can be used as a makeup remover or shaving cream, and it can also be easily made into a lip scrub by combining it with granulated sugar. You can even mix in either coarse sea salt or epsom salts to create an exfoliating body scrub. It can also be used as a hair treatment for frizzy hair — you can either apply it the roots and leave it for a few hours before washing your hair or use a few drops on dry hair to smooth out flyaways and split ends.

Which essential oil will you be using to get your skin ready for your next big beauty pageant?

Fall/Winter Fragrances 2014

It’s that time of year once again, ladies. Cozy sweaters, knit scarves, and patterned leggings abound. And as the weather becomes cool and the leaves begin to change their colors, there’s something else due for a change as well.

That’s right, I’m talking about perfume. No pageant girl feels complete without a signature fragrance. And it’s always fun to switch up fragrances a couple times a year to reflect the atmosphere and get yourself into the mood for the upcoming seasons. And while spring and summer are the time for something light and floral and fresh, autumn and winter call for something different.

Traditional fall and winter scents are a little bit heavier than spring/summer scents. Start by looking for fragrances that are woodsy or musky to achieve that depth. Fragrances with notes of amber, white musk, cedar, patchouli, and sandalwood all have these qualities.

Additionally, we all know that fall is time for pumpkin-spiced everything and winter calls for apple cinnamon galore, so you can evoke this aroma by finding scents that are warm and spicy with top notes of clove, cinnamon, cardamom, and bergamot. You might also want to look for fragrances that contain oriental top notes such as vanilla, mandarin orange, vanilla, balsam, and resin.

It’s worth a mention to always remember that with perfume, a little spritz goes a long way. Anything that can be smelled from across the room or that is too overpowering can be very off-putting, especially if your fellow pageant contestants or judges happen to have environmental allergies.

Also, don’t be afraid to layer scents with a similarly scented body lotion. Even a simple vanilla body lotion can layer beautifully with fragrances to create depth. Try not to wear contrasting body scents in body lotion, however, as it can have an undesirable effect.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at a few enticing fragrances for you to consider wearing during your fall and winter beauty pageants!

Dolce and Gabbana’s The One

This is a personal favorite of mine, and it’s perfect for fall and winter. It is a bold and warm scent with oriental notes. While it does contain fruity notes of citrus and lychee, these are contrasted beautifully by the vanilla, amber, and musk base of the perfume.

Gucci’s Première

This fragrance is undoubtedly a luxurious one. It’s heady and sensual and dramatic. And it is a gorgeous scent for those looking to make a statement, which is certainly apt for you pageant ladies. It has top notes of bergamot and orange blossom, layered with leather, musk, and white flower.

Givenchy’s Dahlia Divin

This is a new fragrance with an sophisticated and timeless fall scent, fitting for a pageant contestant who embodies grace and elegance. It is both woodsy and sweet, but in a very subtle way. It has notes of jasmine and golden fruit, along with sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver.

Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid

This is another mesmerizing oriental fragrance for the cooler seasons. It is vibrantly rich with warm, spicy top notes. Not only that, but it is also intoxicating in its depth and contains cool citrus, rum, honey, and floral notes.

What perfume will be your go-to fragrance for the fall and winter seasons?

Spotlight: Lush Cosmetics & Strawberry Hedgehog

Let’s talk organic. Let’s talk natural. Let’s talk handmade. Now let’s talk about all of these qualities and more in skin care and cosmetics. Every beauty pageant contestant wants glowing and healthy skin, especially when she’s up close with the judges answering interview questions, of course. And we can all agree that our skin needs and deserves the best kind of nourishment, and sometimes natural and organic is the best way to go. With these brands, you’ll know exactly what goes into the products you use on your face and body.

Lush has been a personal favorite of mine for quite a while. Lush has a philosophy of buying ingredients ethically, involvement in charity work, environmentally friendly production and packaging, fighting animal testing, and making handmade, fresh beauty products that are great for your hair, skin, and conscience. From their colorful and fragrant bath bombs and bubble bars to their solid shampoos and fresh face masks, it’s hard not to be enticed. But the quality is what’s really amazing.

Personally, I love their bath bombs, which fizz and create a colorful, aromatic, and moisturizing bath experience to really pamper yourself. My favorites are Phoenix Rising, a warm apple cinnamon-scented one, and Honey Bee, a light honey-scented one, which can be seen in the photo below, along with a few of the other bath bombs offered at Lush.

They also have a great selection of face masks that work for all different skin types. I love their Mask of Magnanimity, which is great for all skin types, and Cupcake, which looks and smells like chocolate and is for oily skin. Both are hydrating and make your face feel nice and loved. You can see the “Cupcake” mask along with all of the other fresh masks that Lush offers in the beautiful display below.

Next, I have to mention their Charity Pot body lotion, which feels amazing as a daily moisturizer for your body. A great bonus to that product is that all proceeds go to charity!

Last but not least, let’s talk about their soaps, which are all super colorful and smell incredible. A lot of them contain pieces of fruit, oatmeal, herbs, or seaweed to exfoliate your skin as you use them. One of their most popular soaps is a honey-scented one Honey I Washed the Kids. Another one that I love is the exfoliating Sea Vegetable, which can be seen below along with several more Lush soaps.

Now, the variety of products that they offer goes way beyond the few that I highlighted above, so I definitely recommend checking out their website to see more!

Another great brand to look out for is this local Arizona company (don’t worry, they ship!). Not only are all of their products handmade, but they are also vegan, free of preservatives, and full of high-quality ingredients so you know your skin will be in good hands with these products.

All of their soaps are plant-based and organic and gentle on your skin. A few soaps to note are the Patchouli Orange, Blueberry Lavender, and the Tea Tree Rosemary, which is a facial cleanser. They also have a “soap club” where you can subscribe to receive either one or three luxurious soaps every month if you’re interested in trying out a few different ones.

They also offer great skincare products like Organic Shea Butter to deeply moisturize dry skin and a Raw Sugar Scrub to exfoliate and smooth skin, both of which are packaged in adorable vintage jars.

Their facial care line includes Balancing Facial Toner for your pores, Blemish Treatment to combat acne, and Hydrating Mist to keep your face feeling refreshed throughout the day.

This is definitely a brand to look into. It’s unique, all-natural, and high quality! Check out their website:

The fact that both of these companies go beyond beauty and support charities, the environment, fair trade, vegan and vegetarian ingredients might dovetail nicely with some pageant girls’ belief systems or platforms that pertain to helping the environment or healthy living.
