Pageat Interview Queen

Nighttime Skincare Routine

Proper skincare is an absolute must for any girl, but especially for pageant girls whose faces are in the spotlight. And establishing a daily routine helps achieve and maintain beautiful, healthy skin. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Removing Your Makeup:

The first step in any skincare routine, before even washing your face, is to remove all of your makeup, so that any traces of various products you use don’t seep into your pores overnight and cause breakouts. You can use a makeup-removing cleanser to wash your face while your remove your makeup, makeup wipes for a quick and easy clean, or a makeup-removing solution like Bioderma Crealine H20 which gently removes waterproof makeup or heavy stage makeup for a post-pageant routine. Another makeup removing product that has recently taken over the beauty world is a cleansing balm, which moisturizes the skin as you massage it into your skin to remove makeup.

Cleansing Your Skin:

blog4photo5Next, it’s time to use a cleanser. Facial cleansers are meant to remove dirt, grime, sweat, and oil build-up from throughout the day. Even if you use a makeup-removing cleanser, I recommend cleansing once more to ensure your face is absolutely clean. When cleansing, it’s always a good idea to use warm water, which opens up the pores and allows the cleanser to penetrate and clear your pores. Cleansers like Cetaphil Daily Cleanser or Simple Foaming Cleanser are great for all skin-types, even sensitive skin. Once you’ve finished cleansing, gently pat your face with a washcloth or muslin without rubbing it in and irritating the skin.

Face Scrub and Face Masks:

The next step is to exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub. This helps remove dead skin, reduces dullness, cleans your pores. I recommend exfoliating every other day to avoid irritating your skin and causing redness. Once a week, I also recommend using a face mask after completing the above steps to deeply penetrate pores and draw out impurities. There are a large variety of face masks that target a number of different skin problems, such as acne, dry skin, discoloration, etc., so identify what you’d like to focus on before choosing one. Face masks with fresh ingredients, such as the ones found at Lush, are even more healthy for your skin.

Using  A Toner:

Next, you’ll want to apply a toner to your face. A lot of people aren’t aware of the benefits of using a facial toner, but it is an important step in the skincare routine. Toners help to minimize pores, balance the pH level of your skin after cleansing, remove the last traces of cleanser or grime, and generally refresh the face. Dab some toner onto a cotton pad and sweep it all over your face in an upward motion, then allow to the toner to absorb and do its job.

Serums and Spot Treatments:blog4photo3

Once you’ve applied a toner, it’s time for your serums and spot treatments. These can vary greatly depending on your skin-type, and are contrentrated products meant to target specific skin problems. This can range from a spot acne treatment such as Clean and Clear’s Advantage Spot Acne Treatment to The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil for dry skin that needs intense moisture. Go ahead and apply your serums, then wait a couple minutes to allow it to sink it to your skin.

Moisturizing Your Face:

Last but not least, theblog4photo4 time has come to moisturize. Night creams generally have a heavier formula than a daytime moisturizer and are meant to be absorbed into the skin throughout the night. A personal favorite of mine is Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar Night Cream, which locks in moisture and leaves your skin soft and smooth. If you use an eye cream, now it is the time to use dab that under your eyes as well.

It may sound like a lot at first, but once you’ve established the routine, it’s not very time-consuming. This routine can be entirely customized based on whether you have dry, oily, sensitive, or combination skin. You’ll start to see the benefits to regular skincare within days and your skin will be glowing during your pageant!

Spotlight: Lush Cosmetics & Strawberry Hedgehog

Let’s talk organic. Let’s talk natural. Let’s talk handmade. Now let’s talk about all of these qualities and more in skin care and cosmetics. Every beauty pageant contestant wants glowing and healthy skin, especially when she’s up close with the judges answering interview questions, of course. And we can all agree that our skin needs and deserves the best kind of nourishment, and sometimes natural and organic is the best way to go. With these brands, you’ll know exactly what goes into the products you use on your face and body.

 LUSH COSMETICS:

Lush has been a personal favorite of mine for quite a while. Lush has a philosophy of buying ingredients ethically, involvement in charity work, environmentally friendly production and packaging, fighting animal testing, and making handmade, fresh beauty products that are great for your hair, skin, and conscience. From their colorful and fragrant bath bombs and bubble bars to their solid shampoos and fresh face masks, it’s hard not to be enticed. But the quality is what’s really amazing.

Personally, I love their bath bombs, which fizz and create a colorful, aromatic, and moisturizing bath experience to really pamper yourself. My favorites are Phoenix Rising, a warm apple cinnamon-scented one, and Honey Bee, a light honey-scented one, which can be seen in the photo below, along with a few of the other bath bombs offered at Lush.

They also have a great selection of face masks that work for all different skin types. I love their Mask of Magnanimity, which is great for all skin types, and Cupcake, which looks and smells like chocolate and is for oily skin. Both are hydrating and make your face feel nice and loved. You can see the “Cupcake” mask along with all of the other fresh masks that Lush offers in the beautiful display below.

Next, I have to mention their Charity Pot body lotion, which feels amazing as a daily moisturizer for your body. A great bonus to that product is that all proceeds go to charity!

Last but not least, let’s talk about their soaps, which are all super colorful and smell incredible. A lot of them contain pieces of fruit, oatmeal, herbs, or seaweed to exfoliate your skin as you use them. One of their most popular soaps is a honey-scented one Honey I Washed the Kids. Another one that I love is the exfoliating Sea Vegetable, which can be seen below along with several more Lush soaps.

Now, the variety of products that they offer goes way beyond the few that I highlighted above, so I definitely recommend checking out their website to see more!

 STRAWBERRY HEDGEHOG:

Another great brand to look out for is this local Arizona company (don’t worry, they ship!). Not only are all of their products handmade, but they are also vegan, free of preservatives, and full of high-quality ingredients so you know your skin will be in good hands with these products.

All of their soaps are plant-based and organic and gentle on your skin. A few soaps to note are the Patchouli Orange, Blueberry Lavender, and the Tea Tree Rosemary, which is a facial cleanser. They also have a “soap club” where you can subscribe to receive either one or three luxurious soaps every month if you’re interested in trying out a few different ones.

They also offer great skincare products like Organic Shea Butter to deeply moisturize dry skin and a Raw Sugar Scrub to exfoliate and smooth skin, both of which are packaged in adorable vintage jars.

Their facial care line includes Balancing Facial Toner for your pores, Blemish Treatment to combat acne, and Hydrating Mist to keep your face feeling refreshed throughout the day.

This is definitely a brand to look into. It’s unique, all-natural, and high quality! Check out their website: http://strawberryhedgehog.com.

The fact that both of these companies go beyond beauty and support charities, the environment, fair trade, vegan and vegetarian ingredients might dovetail nicely with some pageant girls’ belief systems or platforms that pertain to helping the environment or healthy living.

If you’ve shopped at Lush or Strawberry Hedgehog before, let us know which products are your favorites!

Favorite Products for May

Favorite Beauty Products for MayThe end of May is here and so is another “Favorite Products of the Month!” I am very excited for this month’s products because they have become some of my absolute favorites! From lipsticks to body scrubs this month is packed full of fun, brightly packaged products that will bring a smile to your face. So check’em out and enjoy! :)

1.    M.A.C. Lipsticks (Morange, Sunny Seoul, & Candy Yum Yum)

M.A.C. is renowned for its lipsticks, at least among the beauty mavens on YouTube. For a long time I had yet to own any M.A.C. lipsticks, but recently I have been inducted into the M.A.C. lipstick lovers fandom. I recommend that every pageant girl at least owns one or two! These lipsticks are awesome, and they come in such a wide variety it borderlines overwhelming. I was able to narrow down my choices thanks to the YouTubers I follow, and have happily purchased the three colors mentioned in the title.

Morange is a bright orange that seems to just work well on anyone. It fades to a pleasant coral color over the course of the day, and is a great statement lipstick. Candy Yum Yum is another statement lipstick. It’s an in-your-face bright pink that means business. It almost borderlines retro for me, and thus makes it simply amazing. Sunny Seoul is tame compared to the previous two, and is a wonderful pink summery shade. Perfect for applying on the go, it is a great lipstick to have stored on hand at all times! :)

 2.    Tarte: Smooth Operator™ Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer

Foundation and concealer have never been my friends. I have not used foundation in the last four years and use concealers sparingly. This is because I have an absolutely horrid time trying to find a color that matches my skin tone. I am mixed (Asian and Caucasian); the result is a golden yellow and pink skin tone that borders porcelain and fair depending on the season.

I had almost given up hope when I discovered this concealer by Tarte! It blends nicely into my skin tone, but is ever so slightly lighter, which is great because then it brightens my under eyes. Furthermore, this stuff is waterproof, which translates into staying power. So far I have loved it, and definitely recommend to any pageant girls who struggles with the same skin tone problem I have!

 3.    Benefit Cosmetics: Gimme Brow

I heard about this product, and was skeptical at first. Then I watched an infomercial (yes a Benefit infomercial), and was somewhat convinced. I took a chance and bought it, and have loved it since. It subtly fills in brows and gives them more volume in the best way possible. They don’t look drawn in, and instead the formula fills in sparse areas to give you a fuller looking brow. A definite must for any pageant ladies that suffer from sparse or thin brows!

 4.    Soap & Glory: Sugar Crush™ Body Scrub & Flake Away™ Body Polish

May I just say, holey moley these are wonderful! And the smell, it’s to die for! I have tried two of Soap & Glory’s body scrubs (i.e., Sugar Crush™ and Flake Away™). Sugar Crush ™ smells like a margarita minus the alcohol. It is super refreshing and great for summer. Plus it really does work as a great body exfoliator! Flake Away ™ also has a glorious smell, and the smell lasts longer on the skin. Flake Away™ pairs well with The Righteous Body Butter mentioned below. Both come in sample sizes that are reasonably priced, so give them a try! You will smell absolutely fabulous for your pageant!

5.    Soap & Glory: The Righteous Body Butter

I tried a sample size of this along with Flake Away™ as my first foray into the Soap & Glory brand. The combination of the two makes you smell simply divine. Furthermore, the body butter is rich and creamy. It leaves your skin baby soft and very hydrated. This will become an after shower staple in my beauty routine. Whether for summer or winter, this lotion is a great way to have beautiful skin for your pageant!

P.S. What were your favorite products this month? I would love to know so comment below! :)
