Worst Foods For Your Skin

Women often times struggle with skin problems, but have you ever thought that it might be caused by the foods you eat? There are studies that have examined the effects that certain food products have on your skin. If you happen to be struggling with a certain skin issue, it might be irritated by a certain food item.

  1. Sugar – Sugar tends to cause acne; it leads to redness and inflammation. Try to examine food labels before cooking or consuming them.
  2. Processed Food – Junk food and other items that are processed tend to be high in sugar and fat. When consumed, your skin tends to produce more oil which can clog the pores.
  3. Dairy – As much as we tend to think that dairy products are healthy, they are not good for the skin at all. Dairy does not digest well with the body, and it results in cystic acne.
  4. Coffee – The caffeine in coffee dehydrates the body and also dehydrates the skin. Dehydration can cause the skin to look dull or form wrinkles.

These food items are okay for you in moderation, it only causes damage when consumed in large amounts. Consume in moderation and your skin will thank you.

Face Masks

At home face masks are a great way to rejuvenate the skin or simply relax after a long day. There are many different types of masks for each skin type and desired outcome. Masks are a way to create a mini facial at home at a cheaper price and a fraction of the time. Before any formal event such as a pageant, a face mask is a way to prep the skin for makeup and enhance the look of your skin.

Acne Prone/ Oily Skin:

For those women with either acne prone or oily skin, there is a way to combat such obstacles. The best formula for this type of skin is a clay mask that dries after application. Clay masks absorb oil from the skin, minimize pores, and shrink active acne bacteria. A popular clay mask is the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mask, priced at $6.99. You can mix the powder clay with either water or apple cider vinegar, depending on you preference. Your pores will be smaller after applying this mask and creates a matte surface to apply makeup or skin products.

Dry/ Sensitive Skin:

Many women struggle with dry skin or have sensitive skin that reacts easily to certain products. A natural product that can help combat these difficulties is rose water. A mask infused with roses can soothe and tone the skin, preventing redness. A well-known product is the Fresh Rose Face Mask, sold at $62 per container. The rose petals yield nutrients that moisturize the skin and soothe irritation. This mask could be helpful to apply before a pageant in order to soothe the skin and create an even skin tone for the application of makeup.

Dull Skin:

If you simply want to boost the overall appearance of your skin or give it a natural glow, an exfoliating mask is the perfect solution to this problem. By exfoliating, the dead skin cells are removed from the surface, leaving a new layer of skin. A good product for glowing skin is the Olehenriksen Moment of Truth Polishing Sugar Mask. The natural sugar in the mask removes dead skin cells off of the surface of the skin, creating a fresh texture the brightens the skin. Apply this mask before a pageant and you will see the difference it can make when on stage.

There are many face masks that each serve a purpose for different skin types and textures, but finding the one that suits your needs is an easy way to reveal fresh, young skin.

Coconut Oil Tips and Tricks

In the beauty world, there are so many natural products that provide benefits to the skin, nails, and hair. There are even natural products that we would find in the kitchen that work as makeup products. One product that has recently hit the beauty industry is coconut oil. Coconut oil may be in your kitchen cabinet, but did you know that it offers many beauty benefits? There are endless ways to utilize coconut oil in your daily beauty routine.

1. Makeup Remover

Coconut oil is a great way of removing your makeup after an exhausting day. Makeup removers can be expensive and drying to the skin, but coconut oil breaks down the makeup while leaving your skin moisturized. Simply moisten a cotton ball with the product and  For beauty queens, it is an excellent way to remove stage makeup after a tiring competition while rejuvenating your skin for the next day.

2. Conditioner

Furthermore, coconut oil works as a deep conditioner for hair. Its natural properties penetrate hair follicles and strengthen the ends. In order to strengthen your hair, massage the product into the scalp and comb through your hair. After, tie up your hair into a loose bun and leave in for as long as desired. Overnight works best, but a few hours will also do the trick. Shampoo after in order to rinse the residue of the coconut oil. Thick and moisturized hair styles better than limp hair; coconut oil is ideal for pageant women to ensure that their hair is healthy and manageable when styling.

3. Shaving Cream

Shaving creams and moisturizers tend to be on the pricey side, and coconut oil does the trick at a much lower cost. Smoothing the product on your skin before shaving creates a barrier to prevent any cuts from razors or blades. It also provides moisture for the skin, so there is no need for lotion after shaving.

Coconut oil is an essential in your beauty and skin care collection. It can be purchased at your local grocery store, or it may be sitting in your kitchen pantry!

Sun Protection

On a daily basis, it is vital to wear sunscreen or sun protection on your skin in order to avoid permanent damage. People of all skin tones are susceptible to sun damage, and many people are not aware of the harm that the sun can cause. Being a beauty queen, a tan is the perfect way to glow on stage and stand out. However, your tan does not need to come from the sun; there are other alternative such as self-tanners. Protecting your skin is far more important than having a bronze look.

Because sun damage is so powerful and harmful, it is important to apply sunscreen every day. Even if you are attending a charity event outside for only an hour, the sun will still have contact with your skin. Applying sunscreen does not only involve your visible skin, but it also involves your face and neck. Because of the delicate skin on your face and neck, it is even more susceptible to sun damage.

Protecting your skin from the sun does not have to be a burden, you can make it fashionable. For instance, put on a floppy sun hat or wrap a scarf around your head as an accessory that also protects your skin. If you are going to be outside for an extended period of time, wear a long sleeve top or bring a light sweater to cover the skin on your arms.

A popular sun care product is the Neutrogena® Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 55. This product has a high SPF, allowing for intense protection when outside. The ingredients are non comedogenic, meaning that the product will not clog pores or cause breakouts.  It is perfect for the reigning beauty queen, for it is oil free and will not make your skin shiny when standing on stage during a pageant. Maintaining healthy skin is the first step to standing out and owning the pageant stage.

Essential Oils with Beauty Benefits

Who doesn’t want radiant skin and healthy hair? These are musts for any pageant girl, whether you’re on stage being interviewed by a panel or out in your daily life. Today, I’ll be sharing with you all a few essential oils with incredible benefits that will have your skin and hair stage-ready for any upcoming beauty pageants. Let’s get started!

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is so incredibly versatile in its benefits. It’s known mostly for its antiseptic and healing properties, but it has a lot of great beauty uses as well. Because it is an antiseptic, it’s amazing as an acne spot treatment. With just a couple drops on a Q-tip, the tea tree oil will soothe skin as well and reduce redness from blemishes to give you clear, pageant-ready skin. And adding a couple drops of this oil to your regular shampoo can also help reduce dandruff.

It is important to know, however, that tea tree oil should not be ingested and should be used sparingly as it can be harsh in large amounts.

Grapeseed Oil:

blog3photo4Another amazing, inexpensive essential oil is grapeseed oil, which is especially great for pageant girls with oily skin. It is a natural astringent that can be used to tone and tighten skin — all you need to do is put a few drops onto a cotton pad and spread it over your face after cleansing. It can also be used to prevent and reduce acne, similarly to tea tree oil, because it has anti-inflammatory properties. Another great use for grapeseed oil is dabbing a little bit underneath your eyes to minimize under-eye circles and keep you looking fresh and alert during your beauty pageant.

Coconut Oil:

Unlike tea tree oil and grapeseed oil, coconut oil has amazing moisturizing qualities. It can be used to soften cuticles or feet by massaging it into your skin, and it can be used as a luxuriously moisturizing shaving cream. Not only that, but a dab of coconut oil can also double as an overnight lip balm, remove tough waterproof eye makeup, and be used as deep conditioner for hair if you massage it into your roots and leave it for a few hours before washing out as normal. It’ll leave you hair shiny and smooth and definitely catch attention on the pageant stage!

Olive Oil:

Last but not least, olive oil. This versatile oil is not only great for cooking, but its beauty benefits are incredible for those of you pageant girls looking for an at-home beauty fix. Just like coconut oil, it can be used as a makeup remover or shaving cream, and it can also be easily made into a lip scrub by combining it with granulated sugar. You can even mix in either coarse sea salt or epsom salts to create an exfoliating body scrub. It can also be used as a hair treatment for frizzy hair — you can either apply it the roots and leave it for a few hours before washing your hair or use a few drops on dry hair to smooth out flyaways and split ends.

Which essential oil will you be using to get your skin ready for your next big beauty pageant?

Favorite Products for June

Favorite Products for June

We are well on are way into summer, and I hope you lovely pageant ladies are finding some time to treat yourselves and relax! This month I have been testing out sunscreens and bronzers, as I have never truly found one that I have fallen in love with. So here are my favorite products for June, chockfull of summery fun! :)

1. Tory Burch: Perfume

Tory Burch recently came out with its first ever perfume. I was curious, and with its beautiful packaging why not give it a try? It was love at first sniff! The perfume is perfect for spring and summer as it is light and sweet, but has the right amount of depth. This combination makes it the perfect perfume to take from night to day. I have trouble sticking with one scent, but added this one to my rotation. I absolutely love it, and what pageant girl does not want to smell divine for her pageant?

2. Too Faced: Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer

Talk about yummy! This bronzer smells like chocolate! Additionally, the bronzer’s consistency is soft and creamy making application a dream. A little goes a long way, especially with my fairer complexion, but I felt it gave my skin a natural sun-kissed look. Furthermore, the bronzer is very buildable, which gives it great versatility should you tan more as the summer progresses. Give this delicious smelling bronzer a try, and you’ll definitely look like a bronzed goddess for your pageant!

3. Dr. Hauschka: Cleansing Milk

I recently wrote a blog post on organic beauty brands (*hint*), and decided to sample one of the products mentioned. I have absolutely fallen in love with it! Most cleansers are way too drying for my skin, and I end up breaking out or having dry skin. I switched to this all-organic cleanser and have never been happier. It is soft and creamy, and leaves my skin feeling hydrating. My skin doesn’t feel as though it’s being stripped of all its natural oils, and my overall skin tone has improved. If you want beautiful, pageant-ready skin sans chemicals try this product!

4. SuperGoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50

I sampled Sephora’s Sun Safety Kit, which was chockfull of sunscreens and bronzers to try! One of the sunscreens was this lovely oil. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I ended up really liking it. It’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. Although it is an oil, it doesn’t feel greasy. In fact when first applied it makes your skin look dewy and healthy. I prefer it for use on my body to my face, as I am not a huge fan of facial oils to begin with, but how you use it will depend on your preference! Another bonus is that it smells great too! Every pageant girl needs to remember to apply sunscreen to maintain healthy skin!

5. Soap & Glory: Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick

I recently discovered this gloss stick while watching a YouTuber who raved about the product. She said it was moisturizing, plumping, and just the right amount of color. And you know what? She was absolutely right! I have the gloss stick in Fuschia-Ristic, a nice pink color that’s perfect for summer! It also comes in a burgundy berry (Plum Jam) and a natural pink beige color (Nudist). This gloss stick makes lips look plump, full, and luscious. Everything a pageant girl wants to look great for her pageant!

All-Natural Beauty: Body Lotion

All-Natural Beauty_ Body LotionI love body lotion. It keeps skin soft and supple, while making sure you smell wonderful! Lotion is important for skin because good lotion will not only hydrate, but also help heal and protect skin. Furthermore, because the lotion’s ingredients will be absorbed into your skin, you want to make sure that you’re not piling on the chemicals. This is why I prefer to buy organic body lotion when possible.

Every pageant girl wants beautiful, soft skin. So why not make sure you can keep it glowing by using safe, organic products? Below are a few of my favorite (or highly rated) organic body lotions as well as a recipe or two if you’re the D.I.Y. type. Enjoy!

Organic Body Lotion Products:

1.    100% Pure Nourishing Body Cream (Coconut)

I received a sample of this in my Birch Box and absolutely loved it. It had a nice creamy formula, and was very hydrating. The biggest problem I usually have with body lotions are that they are too thin and do not hydrate enough. However, this product was perfectly thick and hydrating. I had a sample of the coconut one, and personally loved it. However, some people are not huge coconut fans. Luckily, they also have green apple, vanilla bean, and pink grapefruit to choose from!

2.    Bliss Body Butter (Lemon & Sage)

My mom received a set of bliss body butters for Christmas, and I quickly set out trying each and every one. The consistency is between thin and creamy, but still hydrating making it nice for the summer. These body butters are paraben free and contain Vitamin A and E, both of which are good for the skin. Furthermore, the body butters come in an array of lovely scents. I liked the lemon and sage because it smelled fresh and energizing due to the citrus.

3.    Alba Botanica Very Emollient Body Lotion (Unscented)

My parents use this body lotion, and naturally I was curious and helped myself to some. This lotion doesn’t smell like anything special, and because of this you can easily layer your perfume on top without any scent conflict. Furthermore, this stuff is gloriously thick, and thus super hydrating! It is paraben free and hypoallergenic, so it is great for those with sensitive skin.

4.    Nourish Organic Body Lotion (Almond Vanilla)

I received a sample of this product and was impressed by its all-organic list of ingredients! It has a pleasant smell and a very lightweight formula. This would be perfect for summer. Especially, for those living in more humid environments because the lotion is less thick than those mentioned above (but is also less hydrating). However, it is chalk full of good-for-you ingredients such as aloe vera, argan oil, and vitamin E making for beautiful, soft pageant-ready skin.
