Make Your Makeup Last

When putting your makeup on in the morning, you want it to last the entire day. It is inconvenient when you have to touch up in the middle of the day or run to the bathroom and quickly fix a streak of mascara. If you are a beauty queen, you need your makeup to stay while you are on stage. However, there are ways to avoid these issues.

  1. Use primer – Primer is a makeup product that you put under your makeup before applying it. There are face primers and eyelid primers; primer serves as a base for your face makeup and your eye makeup. It prevents creasing, flaking, and oiliness.
  2. Apply pressed powder – After finishing your makeup in the morning or before an event, apply a pressed powder to ensure that your makeup lasts all day. Pressed powder locks in foundation and ensures that your skin remains matte and free of shine.
  3. Setting spray – Setting spray serves a very similar purpose as powder, for it prevents your makeup from running or rubbing off during daily activities. There are several kinds of setting sprays that serve different purposes, so you are bound to find one that works for you.
  4. Place powder on top of lipstick – Tired of your lipstick wearing off as soon as you eat, drink, or talk? Try using a translucent powder on top your lipstick. Simply apply the lip product like normal, then use a small brush dipped in translucent powder. Gently tap it on your lips, and say goodbye to fading lipstick!
  5. Avoid touching your face – Sometimes people have the habit of touching their face throughout the day, but this can be harmful for makeup. The oils from your fingers will transfer to your face makeup and cause the skin to become oily.

Trying any of these tips will ensure that your makeup lasts all day, and that you are ready for anything that the day might have in store.

Contouring: Cream or Powder?

Whether you are a makeup guru, a pageant queen, or woman that loves makeup, contouring can enhance any makeup look. Well, what is contouring? Contouring is the art of using darker makeup products to enhance your natural features. Such features may include the jawline, cheekbones, or forehead. You can create a more defined jawline, higher cheekbones, etc. It simply creates the illusion of sharper and more defined facial structures. Some women contour their faces for daily wear, while others contour for a more dramatic look when going out. Contouring is especially useful for pageant women, for stage lights tend to wash out skin tone. The art of contouring allows the face to appear defined, despite the lights and cameras that may diffuse this appearance.

There are so many products on the market for contouring, but the main formulas are powders and creams. Because of the many products on the market, women struggle finding the perfect product for them. When debating to use a cream or a powder, there are various considerations you may want to examine.

Cream contouring products can be found anywhere, from the drugstore to a designer retailer. Cream products work extremely well for those women who may have dry skin, for the creamy products provide a bit of moisture to the skin. Some women prefer working with cream products, for it is easier to blend in the skin. A popular cream contour product is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit at a price of 40 dollars. This palette contains six unique shades, suitable for any aspect of the face that you may want to enhance. Cream products are perfect for touch ups, for there is no need for a brush applicator. You can simply apply the product with clean fingertips. The palette is convenient for the beauty queen backstage, for it allows you to touch up your makeup with no hassle.

On the other hand, women with oily skin may want to avoid putting a product with moisture on their face. Powder products help to avoid any extra moisture on the skin. Some women prefer powder products, for it is easy to layer and darken as needed. A great powder contour product is the Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette at a price of 46 dollars. Similar to the product mentioned above, this is a palette that contains six unique shades to create the desired look you want. The benefit of a powder product is that it creates a matte appearance on the skin. This is ideal for beauty queens, for stage lights can tend to make the skin appear shinier than it actually is.

Contouring is a great way to sharpen the natural features on your face or to get you camera ready. Whatever your purpose of contouring may be, this information should help you find the product you need.

Foundation 101

Choosing the right foundation for your skin can be challenging. Skin types vary, so determining the right formula for your skin is not an easy task. There are also different types of foundations for different occasions. Whether you are looking for a foundation to use every day for work or a foundation to last you during a beauty pageant, there are plenty of options for each occasion and skin type.

Women that have oily skin require a product that is not going to make their skin more oily than it already may be. Oily skin also tends to create larger pores, so a foundation that does not clog the pores is also important. A working product for this skin type is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup. This product states that it will provide 15 hours of wear while keeping the skin matte. The foundation helps control the excess oils that skin may produce. The Double Wear Foundation is perfect for stage performances such as pageants, for it maintains a matte look throughout the day and prevents shine.

On the other hand, women with dry skin need a product that moisturizes their skin. Sometimes, foundation can dry skin out and cause a flaky look. If the product is not moisturizing enough, the foundation will not lay on the skin nicely. The La Mer treatment foundation is perfect for dry skin, for it is embedded with with moisturizing elements that combat dry skin. It continuously moisturizes your skin throughout the day, avoiding the flaky look that some foundations can create. Pageant contestants want a flawless face when on stage, so this moisturizing foundation is ideal for those with dry skin.

For acne prone skin, women need a product that is for sensitive skin and will not break the skin out. The Neutrogena SkinClearing Oil-Free Makeup is the perfect way to combat acne while also creating a flawless face. This makeup is unique, for there is salicylic acid incorporated in the liquid. With this product, you can combat acne while also covering the blemishes that you may want to hide. Eyelash Extensions

Among celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, and pageant queens alike, eyelash extensions have been the most recent beauty trend. Eyelash extensions are simply what they sound like; extensions for your eyelashes! Whether you want to enhance the natural look of your eyelashes or create a dramatic look similar to strip lashes, extensions make your beauty routine effortless.

Eyelash extensions are perfect for the working woman, busy student, or reigning beauty queen. Having extensions speeds up your beauty routine; you don’t have to fuss with mascara or glue on lashes. If you are a busy student, the lashes are perfect for rushing to an early morning class. The lashes look great alone, or can be enhanced with eye shadow and eyeliner for an even more dramatic look. Or how about if you are a reigning pageant queen and are constantly running from charity event to formal dinner? Having a glamorous look will allow a pageant queen to shine and nail the on stage interview. The lash extensions allow you to skip the glue, false eyelashes, and time!

There are a few things to consider before booking an appointment for your lashes. First of all, have a look in mind. Make sure you know if you want a more dramatic look or a natural eye. Also, know what material you would like your lashes to be. Eyelash extensions are manufactured in either mink or silk. The silk has a shiny look while the mink has a matte look; remember that the mink tends to be more expensive than silk! There are also different lengths that can be chosen from, it simply depends on your preference and the desired look you want.

Cost is another factor to consider. Your first set may cost anywhere from $75 – $120 depending on the studio and beauty consultant. After your first set, your lashes will last around 3 weeks before you need to go back to the studio and get a fill. The end result after your first set is absolutely beautiful, fit for any queen or busy scholar!

Liquid Lipstick

Celebrities and makeup artists have been raving over the new product on the market, the liquid lipstick. It is the convenience of a lip gloss with the formula of a lipstick; how could you resist? Most companies tend to create a matte formula, but there are other finishes available. Liquid lipsticks also have long lasting power, perfect for a long day at work or a night on the town. Being a pageant competitor, it is important that your makeup stays put during the entire competition. There are so many cosmetic companies that have released their own version of the liquid lipstick, so you are bound to find the perfect formula for you!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is a must have for your makeup collection. The collection comes in 28 gorgeous shades, so it is super easy to find a shade that works for you. The formula is long lasting and dries rather quickly after applying. This product leaves a true matte finish, yet it isn’t drying at all. Sometimes matte formulas can be slightly uncomfortable, but this product is infused with ingredients like vitamin E and sunflower seed oil. The ingredients allow for a smooth application and comfortable wear throughout the day. My favorite shade within the collection is Lolita, for it is the perfect nude for fall or any season! It’s the combination of a nude and a blush color, extremely flattering on all skill tones. The color gives your lips a natural look while adding a pop of color. It is a beauty must that I have in my collection.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

Another great liquid lipstick out on the market is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick. Not only does Anastasia formulate incredible eyebrow products, but their liquid lipsticks are also amazing products. The formula is a full coverage product that dries to a matte finish; it is also smear resistant, so it lasts for a long period of time. It is convenient to have a lip product that doesn’t need to be reapplied every moment of the day. There are 27 shades to choose from, ranging from pastel pink to rich mauve. The formula is very smooth and applies without clumping, like many liquid lipsticks tend to do. It is so nice to not have to worry about reapplying throughout the day because of the long-wearing formula.

Fall/Winter Fragrances 2014

It’s that time of year once again, ladies. Cozy sweaters, knit scarves, and patterned leggings abound. And as the weather becomes cool and the leaves begin to change their colors, there’s something else due for a change as well.

That’s right, I’m talking about perfume. No pageant girl feels complete without a signature fragrance. And it’s always fun to switch up fragrances a couple times a year to reflect the atmosphere and get yourself into the mood for the upcoming seasons. And while spring and summer are the time for something light and floral and fresh, autumn and winter call for something different.

Traditional fall and winter scents are a little bit heavier than spring/summer scents. Start by looking for fragrances that are woodsy or musky to achieve that depth. Fragrances with notes of amber, white musk, cedar, patchouli, and sandalwood all have these qualities.

Additionally, we all know that fall is time for pumpkin-spiced everything and winter calls for apple cinnamon galore, so you can evoke this aroma by finding scents that are warm and spicy with top notes of clove, cinnamon, cardamom, and bergamot. You might also want to look for fragrances that contain oriental top notes such as vanilla, mandarin orange, vanilla, balsam, and resin.

It’s worth a mention to always remember that with perfume, a little spritz goes a long way. Anything that can be smelled from across the room or that is too overpowering can be very off-putting, especially if your fellow pageant contestants or judges happen to have environmental allergies.

Also, don’t be afraid to layer scents with a similarly scented body lotion. Even a simple vanilla body lotion can layer beautifully with fragrances to create depth. Try not to wear contrasting body scents in body lotion, however, as it can have an undesirable effect.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at a few enticing fragrances for you to consider wearing during your fall and winter beauty pageants!

Dolce and Gabbana’s The One

This is a personal favorite of mine, and it’s perfect for fall and winter. It is a bold and warm scent with oriental notes. While it does contain fruity notes of citrus and lychee, these are contrasted beautifully by the vanilla, amber, and musk base of the perfume.

Gucci’s Première

This fragrance is undoubtedly a luxurious one. It’s heady and sensual and dramatic. And it is a gorgeous scent for those looking to make a statement, which is certainly apt for you pageant ladies. It has top notes of bergamot and orange blossom, layered with leather, musk, and white flower.

Givenchy’s Dahlia Divin

This is a new fragrance with an sophisticated and timeless fall scent, fitting for a pageant contestant who embodies grace and elegance. It is both woodsy and sweet, but in a very subtle way. It has notes of jasmine and golden fruit, along with sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver.

Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid

This is another mesmerizing oriental fragrance for the cooler seasons. It is vibrantly rich with warm, spicy top notes. Not only that, but it is also intoxicating in its depth and contains cool citrus, rum, honey, and floral notes.

Favorite Products for June

Favorite Products for June

We are well on are way into summer, and I hope you lovely pageant ladies are finding some time to treat yourselves and relax! This month I have been testing out sunscreens and bronzers, as I have never truly found one that I have fallen in love with. So here are my favorite products for June, chockfull of summery fun! :)

1. Tory Burch: Perfume

Tory Burch recently came out with its first ever perfume. I was curious, and with its beautiful packaging why not give it a try? It was love at first sniff! The perfume is perfect for spring and summer as it is light and sweet, but has the right amount of depth. This combination makes it the perfect perfume to take from night to day. I have trouble sticking with one scent, but added this one to my rotation. I absolutely love it, and what pageant girl does not want to smell divine for her pageant?

2. Too Faced: Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer

Talk about yummy! This bronzer smells like chocolate! Additionally, the bronzer’s consistency is soft and creamy making application a dream. A little goes a long way, especially with my fairer complexion, but I felt it gave my skin a natural sun-kissed look. Furthermore, the bronzer is very buildable, which gives it great versatility should you tan more as the summer progresses. Give this delicious smelling bronzer a try, and you’ll definitely look like a bronzed goddess for your pageant!

3. Dr. Hauschka: Cleansing Milk

I recently wrote a blog post on organic beauty brands (*hint*), and decided to sample one of the products mentioned. I have absolutely fallen in love with it! Most cleansers are way too drying for my skin, and I end up breaking out or having dry skin. I switched to this all-organic cleanser and have never been happier. It is soft and creamy, and leaves my skin feeling hydrating. My skin doesn’t feel as though it’s being stripped of all its natural oils, and my overall skin tone has improved. If you want beautiful, pageant-ready skin sans chemicals try this product!

4. SuperGoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50

I sampled Sephora’s Sun Safety Kit, which was chockfull of sunscreens and bronzers to try! One of the sunscreens was this lovely oil. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I ended up really liking it. It’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. Although it is an oil, it doesn’t feel greasy. In fact when first applied it makes your skin look dewy and healthy. I prefer it for use on my body to my face, as I am not a huge fan of facial oils to begin with, but how you use it will depend on your preference! Another bonus is that it smells great too! Every pageant girl needs to remember to apply sunscreen to maintain healthy skin!

5. Soap & Glory: Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick

I recently discovered this gloss stick while watching a YouTuber who raved about the product. She said it was moisturizing, plumping, and just the right amount of color. And you know what? She was absolutely right! I have the gloss stick in Fuschia-Ristic, a nice pink color that’s perfect for summer! It also comes in a burgundy berry (Plum Jam) and a natural pink beige color (Nudist). This gloss stick makes lips look plump, full, and luscious. Everything a pageant girl wants to look great for her pageant!

Navigating the Nail Craze

Navigting The Nail CrazeThe nail art craze! Within the last few years nail art—from fancy to crazy—has become a huge part of the beauty and fashion scene. Simply typing nail art into Pinterest will bring forth a plethora of different tutorials and ideas. But how far is too far for nail art? And how do you decide what is appropriate or not for different social situations? Never fear my lovely pageant ladies! I shall help you navigate the nail craze, so that you may go forth and feel confident in your nail art decisions. :)

1. For Work

For WorkThis is a tricky one, as it truly depends on where you work and what you do. If you work in a creative industry that promotes self-expression, you may have no boundaries in how crazy your nail art can become. However, if you work in a conservative law firm or for the government you should probably avoid nail art all together. In the latter case, light pink or nude nails are the best choice. Although you may be able to get away with a simple French manicure or red nail polish, other colors are probably not the best idea.

2. For PlayFor Party

Going out with friends? Have a fun, holiday get-together to go to? Then feel free to be as creative as you want. Check out what nail art is trending now, and go for it. Experiment and have fun!

3. For Everyday

For everyday wear you may want to forgo encrusting your nails with sparkling gems, but you can still have fun nonetheless.  Change it up by painting one nail a For Everydaydifferent color or choosing one finger on each hand to add sparkles. Add a geometric shape or even polka dots to your nails. Another fun idea is to buy a matte nail polish! These ideas may also apply to your pageant nail art choices as well. :)

No matter what nail design you choose, use your best judgment when deciding if it’s appropriate for work, play, or everyday. Have fun and be creative! Use your nails as a way to express your unique style. So get out there, and start painting!

P.S. What is you favorite nail art design? Post a picture or link to one below and let me know! :)
